The Pro Wrestling League has received a jolt before the start of Season 3, slated from January 3.
The PWL official broadcast partner Sony Pictures Network for the first time in three years of the league’s existence will not show the live action on Sony Max. The Hindi movie channel has been the top TRP driver for the league, which according to organisers had outscored the Pro Kabaddi League in the season two viewership numbers.
The PWL action will be broadcast live on Sony ESPN and Sony ESPN HD.
However, the broadcaster has decided to replace Sony Max with the free to air movie channel Sony Wah as the third channel to fulfill the contractual obligation of live broadcast of the league action on at least three network channels.
The shift from Sony Max may hit the PWL viewership hard.
Meanwhile, the league has got a boost from double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar’s presence. Sushil for the first time has agreed to compete in the six-team professional tournament, which will be contested at a single venue in Delhi.
Haryana Hammers, Mumbai Maharathi, UP Dangal, Delhi Sultans, Punjab Royals and Vir Maratha are the six teams battling out for the top honours.
