Virat Kohli: Now, Kohli also tops Instagram honours in India - InsideSport

Virat Kohli’s presence in a competition now virtually means that the rest of the field will battle it out for the No. 2 position. The No. 1 cricketer in Forbes’ top 100 sportspersons list, the No. 1 brand icon in India, India’s highest paid celebrity brand is also the No. 1 in India for being the “most engaged account” on Instagram.

Social media platform Instagram has announced its first ‘Instagram Awards in India’, with Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli (@virat.kohli) taking the top honours as the “most engaged account” as of March 2018. Kohli’s 19.8 million followers is lower than some other Indian celebrities, but he rules the roost in terms of likes and comments on his posts.

Padmaavat star Deepika Padukone (@deepikapadukone) bagged the ‘most followed account’ prize with 22.4 million followers. Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra (@priyankachopra) was next with 22 million followers, trailed by Alia Bhatt (@aliaabhatt) with 20.8 million followers.

In recognition of building a community of 20 million followers, Instagram presented Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor (@shraddhakapoor) with a milestone plaque, according to a press release.

Ishaan Khatter (@ishaan95) was dubbed as India’s “emerging account” for growing his fan base significantly throughout 2017. Ishaan will be seen alongside Janhvi Kapoor as the lead actor in the upcoming Bollywood flick Dhadak, which is the remake of the landmark Marathi film Sairat.

Virat Kohli’s wedding announcement to Bollywood star Anushka Sharma has also figured atop the Instagram major celebrity moments last year along with Priyanka Chopra going ‘Live on Instagram’ with actor Ranveer Singh and Hollywood’s Kate Bosworth on International Women’s Day, 2017.
