The National Rifle Association of India has made unprecedented offers to bag the rights to host the Commonwealth Shooting Championship in New Delhi ahead of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The NRAI has reportedly proposed to take all the cost of the participants and officials for the 2022 Commonwealth Shooting Championships.

The offer includes free to and fro air tickets, local transport, five star accommodation, targets and ammunition to win the Commonwealth Games Federation vote for hosting the event in 2022, national daily The Tribune has reported.

The offer, however, will be limited to the 282 shooters from 38 nations, which have participated in the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Players and coaching staff exceeding the number quoted will have to bear all the costs.

The entire offering, to bag the rights to host the competition proposed to make up for the sport’s exclusion from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, will cost the NRAI about ₹ 10 crore.

The Indian Olympic Association and the NRAI are also working to get the proposed 2022 Commonwealth Shooting Championship medals included in the Birmingham 2022 tally.

IOA president Dr Narinder Batra has already sent in the proposal to host the 2022 Commonwealth Shooting and Archery Events to the CGF. Both shooting and archery are not part of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games programme.

The officials are also very confident that the medals won by countries at the two competitions preceding the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham will be added to the Birmingham CWG tally.

“Medals won in this adjunct sporting event would count towards the tally of the Birmingham Games 2022 at the same level of protocol and treatment as those won at the actual commonwealth Games in Birmingham,” Raninder has told The Tribune. “The combined residual balance of both would be the actual total that shall establish each competing nation’s legitimate closing ranking of the conclusion of the Birmingham edition of the Commonwealth Games,” he added.

The NRAI has reportedly proposed to host the 2022 event in Delhi from March 14, 2022.
