NZ vs Aus: From Maxwell to Jamieson, IPL 2021 big buys continue to flop in consecutive T20Is- Everyone was surprised when Glenn Maxwell, Kyle Jamieson and Jhye Richardson went for big bucks in IPL 2021 auction. The trio received Rs 14.25 crore, Rs 15 crore and Rs 14 crore respectively. Despite coming on the back of a bad IPL season, RCB showed complete faith in Glenn Maxwell and bought him during the fierce bidding war.
Similarly, Kyle Jamieson of New Zealand was on the wishlist of a number of IPL teams. The New Zealand bowler-cum-allrounder was paid Rs 15 crore by the Virat-led RCB. But the duo has failed to do well in the international T20Is for Australia against New Zealand in their last two matches. While Maxwell got out for just 3 runs, Richardson was hammered away for 56 runs in his four overs.
Meanwhile, BBL highest wicket-taker has also missed to prove himself on the international stage. The Punjab Kings bowler had an off day at the office. Jhye gave away 39 runs in his quota of four overs, picking just one wicket.
The trio had earlier failed to do well in the first T20I. While Maxwell scored just one run, Jamieson had given away 32 runs in 4 overs, including one wicket. Maxwell, in particular, had failed to do well for Punjab Kings in IPL 2020 and had failed to justify his price tag of Rs 10.75 back then.
Meanwhile, Adam Zampa also failed to do well in the consecutive T20I. He gave away 43 runs in four overs taking just one wicket.
In the match, Kiwis smashed 219 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Martin Guptill smashed 97 runs, while James Neesham (Mumbai Indians) played a cameo of 16-ball 45 runs. The Mumbai Indians bowler also picked up two wickets. On the other, Marcus Stoinis (Delhi Capitals) 78 runs and Mitchell Marsh’s 41 lifted some spirits for Aussies but they fell four runs short of the target.
