Olympic Channel has officially launched its account on social media video application TikTok.
In the quest to engage new audience and younger generation with the Olympic movement, the International Olympic Committee’s global Olympic channel has launched an official account on one of the youth’s favourite app TikTok.
The launch of the Olympic channel on TikTok has taken just over a month before the start of the Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne which will run from January 9 to 22, 2020. The IOC media platform will look to widen their audience through TikTok which currently has over more than 500 million users. The Olympic Channel will push behind the scenes content, interactions with athletes, bespoke pieces through TikTok in an effort to get more people engaged in the Olympics.
This is a step towards increasing the followers of the Olympic Channel on various social media platforms. The official digital video channel of the International Olympic Committee currently has more than 9.4 million followers. With two big events staged for 2020, including the Winter Youth Games and Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, this is the right time to take a step further towards bringing in more audience.
The Channel’s editor-in-chief, Mary Byrne said, “Our team constantly strives to inspire and reach young audiences through engaging and entertaining content on platforms where they are most active. TikTok provides a fun format in which fans from around the world share and discover new sports, athletes, and stories behind the Olympic games in a new way. We look forward to showcasing the power of sport to this growing community as the excitement continues to build ahead of Lausanne 2020 and on the road to Tokyo 2020.
The short-form video app TikTok has official tie-ups with Novo Basquete Brasil (Basketball club) and various football clubs such as FC Barcelona, Corinthians, Liverpool FC, Los Angeles FC, and Real Madrid FC.
The Olympic channel only last month had launched its global Hindi service.
