After almost a year’s postponement, ECB’s brainchild The Hundred will kick off with the match between Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals at Kennington Oval, London on Wednesday night (IST).
Originally, the tournament was scheduled to begin in 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ECB had to postpone it. A total of eight teams – Oval Invincibles, Northern Supercharges, Manchester Originals, Trent Rockets, Southern Brave, London Spirits, Welsh Fire, and Birmingham Pheonix are taking part in this 100-balls per team tournament. Each team will play eight games in the group round. The table-topper will directly advance into the final whereas the second and third finished teams will vie for a place in the final through the eliminator.
Oval Invincibles will be led by Dane van Niekerk while Kate Cross will lead Manchester Originals in the tournament opener of The Hundred. Both teams boast a number of international superstars which guarantees a full dose of entertainment. Oval Invincibles have Georgia Adams, Marizanne Kapp, Tash Farrant, Fran Wilson, and Mady Villiers in its rank while Manchester Originals have Lizelle Lee, Harmanpreet Kaur, Mignon du Preez, Georgie Boyce, Natalie Brown, Sophie Ecclestone, and Kate Cross in their squad.
