With less than two days left for the player auction, one of the two Indian shuttle queens Saina Nehwal has opted for the Premier Badminton League Season 5.

The 2012 London Olympic Games bronze medallist and one of the PBL icon players for all the Indian badminton league seasons to date, Saina has cited health reasons for her non-availability for the PBL  2020, slated to start from January 20.

The PBL Season 5 auction will take place in New Delhi on Tuesday, November 26.

Saina has confirmed on her certified twitter handle @NSaina that she would not be playing the PBL this time. “Hey everyone, I won’t be part of the PBL Season 5 . I haven’t been well most part of the year due to pancreatitis and injuries and I would like to take time during the PBL to prepare better . I want to say sorry to all my fans and I hope to be part of the next season of PBL,” Saina has tweeted.

Saina’s absence is another major blow to the Premier Badminton League, already struggling with the withdrawal of franchisees.

The league this year has already been reduced from eight to six teams with the withdrawal of Delhi Dashers and Ahmedabad Smashers. There was also no certainty about the North Eastern Warriors.

Till late Sunday evening, the PBL franchisee from the North East has not confirmed their participation for the upcoming season. That leaves the league organizers SportzLiv with only five franchisees and struggle to find the sixth team in less than two days’ time.
