Vivo Pro Kabaddi League has technically established kabaddi as the most watched sport after cricket on Indian television. The Broadcast Audience Research Council week 43 data, however, also establishes the fact that kabaddi loses out a significant chunk of its TV audience every time it has to compete with cricket. The first two one-dayers in the India-New Zealand series have re-established Star Sports 1 Hindi as the No. 1 sports genre Indian channel for the week between October 21 and 27.
Star Sports 1 Hindi with a gain of almost 280,000,000 impressions, and two slots has re-emerged at the number one position, whereas Star Sporst 1, broadcasting the English feed of Ind-N.Z. series, returns to the top five list after a week.
Sony Ten 1 slides from number two position to the fourth and Sony Six after being among the top five for a week has slipped out of the table.
Cricket might be perceived as the game of Englishmen, but the sport is enjoying better reach among Hindi audience on Indian television. The Hindi feed of the first and second ODI between India and New Zealand leads the top five programmes list for the week.
Vivo PKL has enabled Star Sports First to enjoy a runaway success right from its strategic launch with VIVO PKL. With the kabaddi season coming to an end, Star groups free to air sports channel will face its first real test for content and acceptance among its targeted audience. That will make the week 44 data more interesting to look forward to.
