Mustafizur Rahman’s International Debut: The international debut of Mustafizur was good. He picked up 2/20 in four overs against Pakistan in a T20 match. But it was his ODI debut that stunned the world. He picked up a 5-fer against the much-vaunted Indian batting line-up and outdid the big names with his vicious cutters. He became an instant star with this performance.
Mustafizur Rahman’s Test Record: ‘The Fizz’ got his Test debut soon after his ODI exploits. The start to his Test career was also good – a 4-fer in his debut innings. However, he couldn’t sustain his good performances in the longest format and has played just 14 matches since his debut. The fact that he has just picked up 30 wickets in those matches shows that the longest format isn’t his strongest suit.
Mustafizur Rahman’s ODI Record: After getting a 5-fer in his debut match, he got a 6-fer in the next. This suggested a world-beater has arrived on the scene for Bangladesh. While he may not have emerged as the best bowler in the world, his record is still very impressive. 118 wickets in 64 matches with five 5-wicket hauls is not bad at all.
Mustafizur Rahman’s T20 Record: Mustafizur’s strike-rate in the shortest format is good – 15.9. But his economy rate is over 8. 58 wickets in 42 matches shows that ‘The Fizz’ gets wickets regularly. This is an enviable quality for any bowler.
Mustafizur Rahman’s IPL Record: The first season where the Bangladeshi left-arm seamer played in IPL was the 2016 edition. He picked up 17 wickets in 16 matches. But the next two seasons were lean as he didn’t get much of an opportunity. Rahman has been out of IPL action since the 2018 season. With 24 wickets in 24 matches, he has underperformed in the league.
