About Rishabh Pant

Stylish, hard-hitting batsman Rishabh Pant first burst onto the scene in 2016, during the U-19 World Cup that India won. The southpaw was the vice-captain of the side and impressed with his attacking stroke play in the tournament. Thereafter, he was picked by the erstwhile Delhi Daredevils the same year and made his IPL debut against Gujarat Lions.

Soon, a few months later, in 2017, he made his India debut in a T20I against England in 

Bengaluru. The following year, he was awarded with his Test and ODI caps as well. Since then, he has gone on to lead the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, and also captained India in a T20I series against South Africa, in 2022. But his most impressive performances have come in the longest format, where he played a crucial role in series wins in Australia. 

Rishabh Pant Career Highlights 

-Pant made his debut for India in the third T20I against England at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore on 1 February 2017.

-He smashed his maiden Test century, against England also becoming the second-youngest wicket-keeper and the first Indian wicket-keeper to score a Test century on 11 September 2018.

Career 

Domestic career

Pant made his domestic debut in October 2015, during a Ranji Trophy match for Delhi, while his List A debut came a couple of months later in December 2015. One of his most stunning innings in first-class cricket came in 2016-17, when he smashed 308 against  Maharashtra. The same year, he slammed the fastest ton in a List A match against Jharkhand, in only 48 balls, which only made the selectors look at him as a replacement for MS Dhoni, in the future. If that’s not enough, in 2018, Pant scored a ton in only 32 balls, in a Zonal T20 match against Himachal Pradesh.

In the IPL, he found true success in 2017, when he scored 97 in 43 balls against Gujarat Lions. That was just the start, as in 2018, he went on to score his first ton, 128 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the process, he became the second-youngest centurion in IPL. 

IPL Career 

Rishabh Pant has carved a memorable IPL career since bursting onto the scene. Representing the Delhi franchise, he has emerged as one of the league’s most dynamic and explosive batter. Known for his fearless stroke play and ability to score quickly, Pant has been a consistent performer for Delhi Capitals. Over the years, he has played numerous match-winning innings, often single-handedly turning the tide in his team’s favor. Pant’s aggressive batting style and penchant for big hits have made him a fan favorite in the IPL, earning him accolades and admiration from cricket enthusiasts worldwide. International career 

Pant debuted for India in a T20I match in 2017, against England. But he wasn’t an instant hit in white-ball cricket, contrary to the belief of many. Then in 2018, he was called into the ODI and Test teams as well. The next year, he was named in the Indian 2019 World Cup team that made it to the semis. Whereas in the Tests, he was a revelation as he scored tons in England and Australia, and also broke a few records behind the wickets. After Dhoni’s retirement, he became the first-choice keeper in every format.

ODI Career 

After his Test debut against England, Rishabh Pant swiftly transitioned to the ODI format, making his debut against the West Indies in October 2018. A few months later, he was drafted into India’s 2019 ICC World Cup squad as a replacement for the injured Shikhar Dhawan. Despite his initial outings showing promise, Pant faced struggles in 2019, leading to his exclusion from the squad for the 2020-21 away tour of Australia. However, he regained form and confidence during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, setting the stage for his resurgence. In 2022, Pant showcased his prowess in ODIs, amassing 311 runs in 9 matches, including two half-centuries and a maiden century against England at Manchester.

T20 International Career 

Rishabh Pant, a dynamic wicketkeeper-batter, has left an indelible mark on the T20 international stage with his explosive batting prowess. Additional info

Accident- On December 30, 2022, Rishabh Pant suffered a severe car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun highway near Roorkee. Despite sustaining injuries to his head, back, and feet, including cuts on his forehead and a ligament tear to his right knee, Pant was fortunate to avoid any life-threatening injuries. He also suffered injuries to his right wrist, ankle, and toe, along with abrasions on his back. 

Sledging- Pant is known for his banter from behind the stumps. Delhi-born cricketer pulled a joke on Paine by urging the Indian bowlers not to take his wicket as he is a ‘temporary captain’. 

Controversy- Although Urvashi and Rishabh never made their romance official, they did previously engage in a mysterious verbal sparring on social media. 

Family 

On October 4, 1997, in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, Rishabh Pant was born into a family consisting of Rajendra and Saroj Pant. Sakshi Pant is the name of his sister. Pant’s father died in 2017 from a heart arrest. Pant proved to be incredibly driven and determined; just two days after his father was cremated, he scored 57 runs for the Delhi Daredevils in an IPL game, dedicating it to his memory.
