UK pay-TV broadcaster Sky Sports recorded its best ever daily viewing figures on 4th October, with more than 14 million people tuning into an average 95 minutes of programming.
The network’s ratings peaked at 4.55pm BST as 3.3 million viewers tuned into Tottenham Hotspur’s 6-1 away victory over Manchester United in English soccer’s top flight Premier League.
The North London outfit raced to a 4-1 lead in the first 37 minutes, with the burst of goals achieving 25 per cent of the TV market share.
That match was also followed by a similarly high-scoring fixture shown live, as Aston Villa shocked champions Liverpool 7-2 at Villa Park.
Overall, Sky Sports’ channels averaged 933,000 viewers throughout the day, which accounted for 11.7 per cent of all TV viewing in the UK.
Sky also cited several other live sports events for its bumper audience on 4th October, including English cricket’s popular Blast Finals day, which saw Notts Outlaws defeat Surrey to the Twenty20 title.
