Premier League Live: Manchester United drop points in Southampton, play out 1-1 draw – Manchester United and Southampton played out a 1-1 draw at the Saint Mary’s Stadium. Che Adams gave hosts Southampton the lead in the 30th minute which was later awarded as an own goal by Fred. While Mason Greenwood equalised from a fantastic strike, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men failed to find the net second time as the match ended in a draw.

Manchester United came into the game with the confidence of beating Leeds United 5-1. But it was a contrasting performance on Sunday. The Red Devils were sloppy in possession and in defence while missed important chances, handing a point to Southampton.

Premier League: Although United enjoyed more possession and shots, it was Che Adams who opened the scoring for Southampton. Bruno Fernandes was at fault for the first goal as he easily lost possession and the ball was passed to Che Adams in the 30th minute. Adams’ shot deflected off Fred to enter United goal as Southampton took a 1-0 lead against the run of play.

The second half saw no difference. The visitors continued to enjoy more possession and hitting the accelerator on the break but missed opportunities nearly cost them three points. However, it was Mason Greenwood, who scored his second goal of the season as Manchester United levelled Arsenal’s Premier League record of 27 consecutive unbeaten away matches at Southampton.

Premier League: Manchester United levelled the scoreline 10 minutes into the second half with Paul Pogba setting up Greenwood. It was a team goal with Greenwood creating the chance and then Pogba setting him up with the final pass. McCarthy failed to save Greenwood’s left-footed low shot as United equalised 1-1.

However, it was United’s missed chances that could come back to haunt them. Greenwood and Fernandes both came close for the winner but failed to find the net. On the other hand, Southampton nearly won the match when Che Adams set up Adam Armstrong but the latter was denied by David De Gea in United goal.

Premier League: With the draw, United have now four points from two games and they next face Wolves on August 29.

73rd minute: BIG CHANCE! Armstrong snatches a ball following poor defending by United but his attempted shot falls straight to De Gea who doesn’t make a mistake.

72nd minute: United have 4 on target and a total of 14 shots in the match but are still level.

64th minute: Greenwood is just off target. Sancho sets up Fred with a back pass. Fred floats in a ball for Greenwood but his header off target.

59th: Almost from Pogba. The Frenchman with his dancing feet beats two Southampton defenders but his shot goes wide.

57th minute: SUBSTITUTION: Jadon Sancho comes in place of off-colour Anthony Martial.

55th minute: GOAL! Greenwood scores. A team goal to say the least. Greenwood is set up by Pogba and the youngster’s left-footed shot beats McCarthy in the goal. SOU 1-1 MUN

47th minute: Paul Pogba once again creates a chance and takes a shot. It deflects off a Southampton defender. United appeals for a penalty for handball but the referee isn’t interested.

HT: Southampton 1-0 Manchester United: Some wasted opportunities and sloppy defence saw United go down 0-1 in the first half.

43rd minute: Bruno Fernandes takes a freekick from 23 yards but it hits the wall. The resulting corner is headed goalwards by Matic but it McCarthy has no problem saving it.

40th minute: Southampton once again threatened United with a goal-bound move. Theo Walcott does well to take a shot but misplaces it.

36th: Manchester United have enjoyed more possession, more shots but it’s Southampton who are leading at the moment.

34th: Pogba once again threatens Southampton with a chance but McCarthy does well to parry it away.

30th minute: GOAL! Southampton 1-0 united; Adams scores for Southampton. A stunning against the run of play goal. Bruno Fernandes was the culprit. He let his guard down and the Southampton player snatched the ball to send it goal-mouth. Adams after a 1-2 with his teammate took a shot and De Gea had no trouble sending it in.


26th minute: Southampton win a freekick from a good position but the new signing wastes the opportunity as it deflects off the wall.

18th minute: United have made early inroads while Southampton have looked disorganised.

12th minute: Another set-piece and Luke Shaw finds Pogba with a good delivery but the Frenchman fails to find the net. Another chance goes begging

11th minute: Martial wins a freekick and floats in the ball for Pogba but fails to find the net.

7th minute: SO CLOSE! How is that not a goal. A scramble inside the Southampton box saw United almost take the lead but none could get it inside.

5th minute: Walcott wins the ball and runs down the right flank but fails to create the momentum.

3rd minute: Sloppy defence from Harry Maguire. Armstrong nearly creates a chance.

Kick-off: United enjoy early possession.
