Premier League Transfers: Anthony Martial reportedly rejects chance to rejoin Lyon on deadline day – Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial reportedly rejected the chance to rejoin Lyon this summer. The 25-year-old was rumored to be presented with the opportunity and return to France on deadline day which the forward decided to reject. His future at Old Trafford continues to remain under the clouds of uncertainty with pressure on him to retain a spot in Manchester United’s starting 11 this season.

Anthony Martial did not have the best of starts to the ongoing Premier League season with the Frenchman still to score for the Red Devils. He could soon be under serious pressure following the eagerly anticipated return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford. The 36-year-old attack is set to feature for Man United once again which puts Martial’s position in the teams’ attack under direct threat.

According to reports from L’ Equipe, Lyon made an attempt to sign the 25-year-old on a year-long loan deal. The French outfit has been on the lookout for a winger and is said to have promptly opened discussions with Martial’s team over a loan move only to see the Man Untied star turn down the opportunity.

Martial, who joined Manchester United in 2015 for £35m currently has three years remaining on his deal. The forward current contract expires in June 2024 with the deal also having an option to extend his stay at Old Trafford by an additional year.

He started the ongoing season competing alongside the likes of Mason Greenwood and Dan James while Marcus Rashford remained sidelines recovering from his shoulder surgery. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will soon make Martial’s life more difficult with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Roldano set to add more firepower in Man United’s front line.

Sancho is being slowly bedded into the side with Ronaldo also likely to make his debut against Newcastle in the Premier League. It remains interesting to see what Martial does and if he can move up Ole Gunner Solskjaers’ pecking order this season.
