PSL 2021: Naseem Shah & Shahid Afridi ruled out of Pakistan Super League- Multan Sultans player Shahid Afridi and Naseem Shah of Quetta Gladiators have been ruled of the remainder of PSL 2021. While Naseem Shah was ruled out for breaching COVID-19 protocols, Afridi was ruled out due to a ‘ lower back pain’.

“Naseem Shah of Quetta Gladiators has been released from isolation in Lahore after he breached the protocols for departure from Pakistan by arriving at the designated hotel with a non-compliant RT-PCR test result. As such, the fast bowler will not be travelling to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 26 May and is now out of the competition,” read statement from PSL.

As per the Covid-19 protocols for the remaining HBL Pakistan Super League 6 matches, all those traveling through chartered flights from Karachi and Lahore were directed to assemble at the team hotels in Karachi and Lahore on 24 May with negative reports of PCR tests taken not more than 48 hours prior to arrival at the hotel.

However, Naseem presented a PCR report from a test that was conducted on 18 May. Upon submission of the report, he was placed into isolation on a separate floor before being released following a decision made by a three-member panel on the recommendation of the independent Medical Advisory Panel for PSL.

Former Pakistan captain Afridi, on the other hand, was training in Karachi for the upcoming tournament matches when he experienced pain in his lower back following which he was examined by a doctor who has advised him complete rest.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote, “While training for the remainder of @thePSLt20, I felt lower back pain & had to consult a doctor. Unfortunately I have been advised to rest and can no longer accompany my team @MultanSultans. I am heartbroken 💔 as I was practicing and training really hard. My support & prayers are with the team to take the trophy.”

The development was confirmed by Multan Sultan in an Instagram post. “We regret to inform you that due to a lower back injury, our superstar, icon, & an integral part of the franchise, @safridiofficial will miss out on the remainder of @thepsl 6. The Sultans family will miss you and we are praying 🤲 for your speedy recovery!

Shahid, who appeared in Sultans’ four Karachi-leg matches, has been replaced by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s left-arm-spinner Asif Afridi who would be joining the Sultans squad in Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, Islamabad United have roped in left-handed batsman Umar Amin and West Indies opener Brandon King. The latest additions mean they have now have a complete 20-player squad.

Peshawar Zalmi have added Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Sameen Gul and Khalid Usman as reserve players in their squad.
