PSL 2021: PCB confirms UAE to host remainder of Pakistan Super League season- The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the six franchise owners met on Friday virtually to discuss the remaining 20 matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) six. UAE emerged as a preferred venue for the remaining 20 matches during the conference.
According to PCB, as the holiday period has already started in both the countries and the Pakistan men’s national cricket team has to depart for the United Kingdom on June 23, the PCB will use this time to work with the Emirates Cricket Board to check if the event can be successfully delivered within the available time.
“We had an interactive and productive meeting in which we considered a number of factors. While the UAE has emerged as a preferred venue, a number of challenges remain, which will be worked through over the coming days. We remain committed to doing everything possible to complete the HBL PSL 6,” said PCB Chief Executive Wasim Khan in an official statement.
PSL 2021: PCB confirms UAE to host remainder of Pakistan Super League season
Earlier today, PCB approached the Emirates Cricket Board for the remaining matches of PSL 2021 season. Earlier, the remaining matches were scheduled to take place in Karachi. The decision has been taken amid rising cases of COVID-19 in Pakistan.
Last Wednesday, all the six franchises in PSL 2021 had asked the PCB to shift matches from Karachi to UAE. A letter regarding the same was sent to the Cricket Board to reschedule the 2021 edition.
National Command Operation Centre (NCOC) had also asked the cricket board not to stage the tournament in Karachi.
“If the NCOC does not give the go-ahead to PCB for holding matches in Karachi, we will consult the franchises to hold the rest of the tournament in the UAE,” a PCB spokesperson had told Reuters.
As per a report from ESPNCricinfo, PCB has also cancelled its booking with the hotel in Karachi where it had reserved 407 rooms.
The players were scheduled to reach Karachi on Pakistan 23 and undergo a mandatory week-long quarantine before PSL 2021 re-start on June 1. Now, it remains to be seen if the PCB can follow the same scheduled or alter the same.
