Pro Wrestling League Season 3 has scored a grand opening on Sony Picture Network’s free to air channel Sony Wah. The wrestling league has registered a TVR of 0.45 on Sony Wah in the Broadcast Audience Research Council data for Week 2 (January 6-12, 2018). This happens to be the best ratings for any ongoing sports league in India. PWL’s best number for Sony ESPN is 0.07.
The Haryana versus Delhi tie with the rating of 0.45 has drawn the best broadcast audience for the season. Punjab versus UP (0.38), Marathas versus Haryana (0.32), Delhi-Mumbai (0.29) and a preview show (0.25) have generated the numbers which can be any broadcaster’s delight.
In sharp contrast, Premier Badminton League even at its peak has been disappointing to fetch the desired numbers. The 0.02 ratings in the week that featured the semi-finals and the final contests have been the weakest ever in the history of the league.
Meanwhile, despite Team India’s drubbing at the hands of hosts Proteas, the opening match of the three-Test Freedom Series has delivered the ratings of 0.43 at an average on Sony Ten 1. The Test match broadcast has topped the sports genre top five shows list on BARC table for the week.
Cricket and WWE have also helped Sony Network channels consolidate their respective positions in the top five sports’ channels list.
The wrestling league will face a heads on competition from the South Africa-India Freedom Series second Test live broadcast for the prime time eyeballs. It will be interesting to watch how India’s desi khel manages to hold on to its audiences. The PWL though will always have the advantage of deep penetration in rural India with the free to air Sony Wah beam.
