Heinrich Klaasen of South Africa has been picked to replace Steve Smith in the Rajasthan Royals squad for the Indian Premier League 2018.
The South African wicket-keeper batsman was picked for ₹50 lakh from the registered and available player pool list.
The 27-year-old Klaasen has recently made his international debut against India in the 50-over format. He was named the man of the match for the fourth one-day international for his 27-ball, undefeated 47 at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Stadium.
He was later also picked for the three-match T20 International series between South Africa and India.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royals had named India batsman Ajinkya Rahane as the captain after Smith was suspended for a year in the wake of the pre-planned ball tampering controversy.
Smith and David Warner are handed a one-year suspension for their role in the ball tampering controversy during the Test series in South Africa. The Board of Control for Cricket in India had subsequently suspended the duo for the IPL 2018.
