NBA 2020-21: Toronto Raptors vs New Orleans Pelicans  Match Preview

Match Preview – Toronto Raptors

The Toronto Raptors had a decent outing in the last season. They had a 53-19 record and were knocked out by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.

Veterans Marc Gasol and Serge Ibaka have left the Raptors. Yet, they won all 3 of their NBA Preseason games. They still have a strong core around Fred VanVleet, Kyle Lowry, and Pascal Siakam.

The Raptors are the only team that has had both a better-than-average offense and a better-than-average defense in each of the last five seasons.

The 122.9 points per 100 possessions the Raptors scored in the first round vs. Brooklyn was the third highest mark for a team in any playoff series in the last 10 years. The 100.3 points per 100 possessions they scored in the conference semis vs. Boston was the worst mark for a team in a series in 2020.

Match Preview – New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans did not reach the Playoffs last season. They had a poor record of 30-42. They won both of their preseason games as both Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram looked in great form.

They have added a new coach in Steve Van Gundy, players in Steve Adams, Eric Beldsoe, and Kira Lewis Jr. in the NBA offseason. While Jrue Holiday and Derrick Favours have left their franchise.

The Pelicans led the league in player movement (12.2 miles per 24 minutes of possession) and ranked second in ball movement (383 passes per 24 minutes of possession). 36.1% of Pelicans’ opponents’ shots, the league’s second highest opponent rate, came in the restricted area.
