New Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju today finalised the blue print of the National Sports University to be set up in Imphal.

In a meeting to review the project, he directed that the project must be expedited and work must begin at the earliest.

A detailed presentation was made to the minister on the design, layout and architectural specifications of the project. The construction work of the university is expected to start at an early date, states a Press release.

The National Sports University will be the first-of-its-kind specialized sports university to impart courses on sports science, sports technology, sports management, sports coaching, besides functioning as the national training center for select sports disciplines, at par with international practices.

The foundation stone of the first sports university in the country was laid in March 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The project was delayed because of land development problems.
