Believe it or not Cristiano Ronaldo’s star status as a brand icon has better commercial value than the price he gets for his basic skills as a footballer that place him among the top two highest paid sport stars the world over.
Ronaldo’s annual income from Instagram is more than the Portuguese football icon earns from his annual contract with Italian Serie A club Juventus. In simple equation, Ronaldo has been attracting better value from posting promotional messages on his Instagram account, where he has 189 million followers, than his contract with Juventus for playing football.
According to Business Insider Statista, Ronaldo’s annual Instagram income is $47.8 million, whereas he gets only $ 34 million per annum from Juventus for playing football. Only Kylie Jenner ($1,266,000 per post) and Ariana Grande ($996,000 per post) command better Instagram commercial value than Ronaldo.
The second highest-earning sportsperson in year 2019, according to Forbes, Ronaldo earns the most in brand endorsement and promotion deals among footballers.
The highest earning sportsperson on the Forbes 2019 list, Lionel Messi in contrast gets $ 44 million from playing for Spanish LaLiga side Barcelona whereas he gets $648,000 for an Instagram post as against $ 975,000 price tag for a single post on Ronaldo’s Instagram page.
The value is determined by numbers, which favour the Portugal and Juventus star. Ronaldo with 189 million followers is the most-followed athlete on Instagram. Messi’s Instagram page has 135 million followers.
Ronaldo’s total social media fan following exceeds 390 million, including 80.9 mn on twitter and 122 mn on Facebook.
