The Australian batsman had sustained a concussion during the limited-overs series against England due to which he missed all three ODIs and T20s. His participation is no subject to clearance from both franchise and Cricket Australia medical team.

Smith’s absence adds to the woes of RR, who will be already be missing Jos Buttler and probably Ben Stokes too. Buttler will no play as he has brought his family with him and will have to undergo the full six-day quarantine. Stokes, on the other hand. is with his father who is unwell in Christchurch.
