Film maker Amole Gupte breaking his silence has confirmed that biopic on India’s badminton queen Saina Nehwal is on. Shraddha Kapoor stays in the lead role.
But wait. There is a good half-a-year for light, camera and action to get going. The project is not going to hit floor before September 2018.
“We start shooting in September. In December, Shraddha had travelled to Hyderabad to train at Pullela Gopichand’s badminton academy and (she had) continued with her training in Mumbai. I’ve been working on this film for over two years and it’s important to me. I’m looking forward to September,” Mumbai Mirror has reported Gupte as saying.
The shooting is likely to start from Saina’s karmabhoomi Hyderabad. “That’s the plan (to start shooting from Hyderabad) for now. But it also depends on my actors’ dates. We will be shooting in studios and real locations, including several stadiums as we are chronicling Saina’s life story as authentically as possible,” Gupte said.
Gupte also dismissed speculations that Shraddha has been struggling with her training to match Saina’s skills. “We aren’t paying heed to what people say. Shraddha, especially her facial structure, has a striking resemblance to Saina. All my life, I’ve remained silent in the face of detractors and adversities. The best thing to do is to do your job well,” he is reported as saying.
