India’s badminton stars Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu will not be able to attend the IOC Athletes’ Commission meeting. The International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission meet is slated for the coming Sunday, July 9, at Geneva.
PV Ramana, Sindhu’s father, confirmed to InsideSport that the Rio Olympics medallist will not be able to attend the Geneva meeting as she is preparing for the busy international schedule ahead.
The world No 5 women’s singles player on the Badminton World Federation rankings is celebrating her 22nd second birthday today.
Seasoned campaigner Saina Nehwal, another Indian representative on the Athletes’ Commission, too will not be able to attend the meeting. Saina has been on the athletes commission for the second successive year, whereas Sindhu is elected to the prestigious body earlier this year.
The 2012 London Olympic Games medal winner Saina was also not able to attend the commission meet due to the China Open Super Series tournament.
Now, India’s female badminton icons are preparing for the forthcoming Badminton World Championships from 21 to 27 July at Glasgow.
The Athletes’ Commission is chaired by American ice hockey Olympian Angela Ruggiero and comprises nine vice-presidents and 10 other members.
