Samsung has launched three new wearable health and fitness devices at the recently concluded IFA 2017 in Berlin. The South-Korean technology company with a focus on fitness and health unveiled the three new gears that include Gear Sport, Gear Fit2 and Gear IconX.
Gear Sport, a fitness-based smartwatch, and Gear Fit2, a GPS fitness band, have many of the same capabilities. Both are water-resistant and offer real-time heart rate monitoring. The devices also offer the ability to create own wellness plan while helping stick to it with goals and alerts.
With the new Gear devices, Samsung is focusing on fitness activities like tracking exercises, nutrition, sleep monitoring, and yes swimming. Both the Gear devices come with US Military STD-810G testing and are 5 ATM water resistant, which means they are swim-proof. Samsung is also adding “motivational coaching” to its Gear series and the company says it will team up with Under Armour fitness apps like UA Record, MyFitnessPal, MapMyRun and Endomondo to help users achieve their goals.
Gear IconX are Bluetooth-enabled, wireless earbuds. They bring plenty of features such as voice controlling for your music and phone. By simply tapping the earbuds you can connect to your phone or enable a standalone Running Coach that provides exercise updates in real-time.
“At Samsung, we celebrate the everyday athlete – whether you’re going for a light jog, or training for your next triathlon. We have a long history of embracing choice and innovation, and our wearables are designed to help consumers of varying fitness levels meet their goals and aspirations. We want to help remove the stigma that fit can only mean one thing and that fitness trackers are complex and for only the most intense of workouts,” Samsung President of Mobile Communications Business, DJ Koh, said in a statement. “Our new Samsung wearables help consumers ‘go beyond fitness’ and enjoy an active, balanced and fulfilled life in a smart and seamless way.”
Gear Fit2 Pro will begin shipping in the United States starting September 15 at a retail price of $199 (roughly Rs. 13,800). Until now there is no word when we can expect them in India. Also Samsung didn’t share how much will it charge for the Gear Sport smartwatch and the IconX earbuds.
