US tennis legend Serena Williams has made her latest venture into the women’s fashion market with the launch of her own clothing line.
Serena said the clothing line, which has been created under the ‘S’ brand, is “for all the ladies out there being awesome”, and the launch comes as the 36-year-old returned to Grand Slam action this week at the French Open.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner gave birth to her daughter in September and on Tuesday she defeated Kristyna Pliskova 7-6, 6-4 in the first round at Roland Garros. She wore a black body suit created by her apparel partner Nike during the match and said the outfit was a statement for mums who, like herself, experienced a tough pregnancy.
Posting on her Twitter account, Williams wrote: “They say life is about timing. I learned this lesson at age 18, when I chose to play a light tennis schedule because I wanted to go to fashion school. Some criticised my decision, but I knew I had two loves – tennis and fashion – and had to find a way to make them coexist.”
The wait is over! @ShopSerena is officially here.

Serena, who has worked with Nike and Home Shopping Network on apparel ventures in the past, went on to explain how she had always hoped to launch her own fashion line, adding that a number of ideas to potential partners had been rejected over the years. Her new line will feature a range of clothing, from casual wear to dresses.
’S’ brand clothing has a price range of $40 for the logo T-shirt to $215 for a gold and black anorak jacket.
Serena’s elder sister Venus Williams already has her clothing line. Like Serena, the seven-time Grand Slam champion also has a degree in fashion and has been creating stylish yet functional workout gear under her clothing brand name EleVen, which was launched in 2007.
