English cricketer Ben Stokes could be one of the players making an appearance during the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL)
According to media reports, Stokes could have a base price of Rs. 1.9 crore (approximately $280,000) for the auction and some teams may have evinced interest in signing him up for IPL. During the recently concluded five-test series in India, Stokes scored 345 runs and took eight wickets.
But Stokes, considered as one of the high-impact players in modern cricket, could see his value rise above that if he can deliver for his team in the limited overs matches that begin on January 15. The player auction for IPL is scheduled well after the India-England series, which will give the teams to judge Stokes and the all-rounder to register his presence for the limited overs format.
The auction for players is scheduled in February. However, given the court action against BCCI, no date has been finalised.
Teams will have to balance their needs when picking Stokes since England are scheduled to play Ireland for a two-match ODI series, while a test series with South Africa will begin on May 24, too close to the date when the IPL finals are held.
Four English players – Sam Billings, Kevin Pietersen, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler, played during IPL in 2016 but Pietersen and Morgan have been relieved by their club last month.
