Singhania nominated to replace Mallya at FMSCI

Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India has adhered to the advice of the Ministry of Sports to not to nominate fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya for a  Post.

The FMSCI has nominated Gautam Singhania for the election of the post of the FIA titular in the WMSC. The post was previously held by Mallya. The post was vacant since July this year.

An elated Singhania himself broke the news on twitter.

The motorsport fraternity is reportedly not happy with Singhania’s nomination. An official is reported to have objected that Singhania was not “associated with Indian motorsport in any capacity” and his name was recommended by a “sponsor”. “Has the FMSCI decided to abide by the diktat of a sponsor? The FMSCI, in its wisdom, has chosen to send the nomination of a candidate who has not been connected with the FIA or the FMSCI in any capacity to be nominated to represent India. It’s based on personal preferences and not on merit,” he added.

However, the JK Group industrialist has been picked by an overwhelming 7-1 vote.

Racing enthusiast Singhania has so far not served motorsport in any official capacity. Though the Indian industrialist has competed in Ferrari Challenge
