The entertainment and news TV network, Siyatha TV will broadcast the forthcoming Pakistan-Sri Lanka cricket series in the Island Nation.
This is the first occasion that Siyatha will broadcast a cricket series.
National broadcaster Roopavahini, the lead sports broadcaster in the country after CSN Network was forced to shut its operation in 2015, had shown a very cold response for the Sri Lanka-Pakistan series broadcast rights. This had raised a threat of Sri Lankan cricket team’s tour of Middle East for the away series against Pakistan not getting a broadcaster in the island nation.
The Pakistan Cricket Board Media rights, originally acquired by Ten Sports, are now held by Sony Sports Network following the ZEE Sports acquisition by Sony.
However, with Siyatha TV for the first time agreeing to broadcast an international cricket series, the Sri Lankan fans will not be deprived of watching their team’s matches against Pakistan. Siyatha TV has signed the broadcast deal on Monday, a mere two days before the first Test starts at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
The one-day international series is split between Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Abu Dhabi will also play host to the first and second T-20 internationals of the three-match series. Sri Lanka is scheduled to play two Tests, five one-day internationals and three T-20 internationals during the away series against Pakistan. The second Test will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The Sri Lankans will travel to Lahore for the third T-20, their last game on the tour. This is the first time the Sri Lanka will be visiting Pakistan after their team bus was attacked by Pakistani militants on their way to the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore on March 3, 2009.
Siyatha TV belongs to Sri Lanka’s Voice of Asia Network media group, which also operates news and entertainment TV channels and FM radio stations.
