SLK vs BR, CPL 2021: David Wiese shines as St Lucia Kings beat Barbados Royals by 14 runs and end their qualification hopes – Riding on brilliant bowling performance by David Wiese and fifty by captain Faf du Plessis, St Lucia Kings defeated Barbados Royals by 14 runs in a rain-curtailed match here at the Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts on Saturday and also knocked the Royals out of contention.
Wiese picked up three wickets in an over to change the game on its head. Chasing a challenging total of 176, the Royals got off to the worst possible start as Kyle Mayers was dismissed in the third over of the innings. Johnson Charles, Shai Hope, Jason Holder, and Hayden Walsh played cameos but could not take their team home.
The star of the match was David Wiese who picked 5-wickets in the game. Alzarri Joseph, Wahab Riaz, and Jeavor Royal also chipped in with one wicket each.
Earlier, Put into bat, St Lucia Kings were reduced to 37/3 at the end of the powerplay when skipper Faf du Plessis took the charge and resurrected the innings with his crucial knock of 84 off 54 balls including five fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 155.56. St Lucia Kings finish off at 175/6.
With this loss, Barbados Royals are no longer in contention for Tuesday’s semi-finals and will be playing for pride when they face the Saint Lucia Kings once again in their final group game on Sunday. St Lucia Kings, on the other hand, has cruised to the fourth position and needs to avoid a loss in their final league round game against the Royals to stay advance into the next round.
