Sony China confirms plans to launch PlayStation 5:The PlayStation 5 was initially launched in as many as six markets. Recently, the console was launched in India. Now, Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will be launched in China. The exact date has not been announced but, what is revealed is that it will get launched in the second quarter of 2021.
“Tatsuo Eguchi, the president of SIE Shanghai and Soeda Takehito, the vice chairman, confirmed the news today in a special Chinese New Year greetings video”, Daniel Ahmed, Senior Analyst at Niko Partners had tweeted.
In a series of tweets, Ahmed, who tweets about the gaming industry also wrote “The PlayStation 5 has obtained 3C Certification for two models on Dec 10. CFI-1009A (Disc) and CFI-1009B (Digital).
This is a step towards allowing them to sell officially in China (It’s like FCC approval in the US).”
Players who have been wanting the console from the time it was launched have been importing the PS5 from other countries like the USA and Japan. It was also anticipated earlier that the price of the PS5 console in China could be three times the actual price of the gaming console.
According to a report by South China Morning Post, “scalpers in China are already taking pre-orders with the price set at more than US$1,500 per unit, three times the retail price.” While the PlayStation 5 was getting sold for about $1,950 in China, many sites started comparing it to the US price.
“PlayStation 5 hardware was originally approved for sale back in December and final preparations are currently underway, including the relevant approval of software.
The PS4 originally launched in March 2015 for China, so PS5 will be faster,” Ahmed said in a separate tweet.
