Cricket has been the deciding factor to determine the Sports Genre leaders for Indian television in Week 5 of the Broadcast Audience Research Council data. Sony Ten 1 and Sony Ten 3 have been to the top two sports genre channels, thanks to India’s emphatic win over hosts Proteas in the one-day international series opener on February 1. The Durban one-dayer has also enabled free to air Doordarshan Sports grab a position in the five table – ahead of Star Sports 1 Hindi.
Sony Ten at the top have registered 284.7 million impressions, followed by Sony Ten 3 with 166 million impressions for the week. The India-Sri Lanka cricket has also helped Doordarshan Sports grab a top position in the top five list with 90 million impressions.
Four of the top five shows are the different content from the first one-day international. The live broadcast of India’s win over the hosts figures in the first, second and the third spot whereas the mid-show on DD Sports too has figured in the top five list behind the last day of the three-Test series on January 27, when Indian have scored a big, albeit only for consolation, win over South Africa.
In Week 6, team India and their ODI series in South Africa has gained more momentum. Wristy Yazuvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been weaving magic to complement the master class of captain Virat Kohli. Sony and cricket will be eyeing yet another strong week ahead.
