Lanka will be set ablaze. No mythological drama will that be. But, a high-octane limited overs battle between the Indian and Sri Lankan cricket teams in royal blue and blue flannels respectively. So suggests the campaign from the official webcaster- SonyLIV.
Ab Lagegi Lanka Mein Aag! is the tagline of SonyLiv’s creative for the forthcoming one-day series. This of-course has a reference to the mythological drama of Hanumaan setting Ravana’s golden Lanka on fire. But, it is certainly not without a cricketing and competitive substance.
The creative thought is also not far from the series’ ground reality. The heat indeed is on, as was evident from the way captain Upul Tharanga’s pleaded for support. “Mom, Dad, Sister, Aiya, my sister, my brother. Trust in us, stay with us. Be strong again, rise up like lions,” Tharanga pleaded in native Sinhalese language during a Press conference.
The hosts won’t just have to erase the agonising memories of a complete no-show leading to their whitewash in the three-Test home series, but the stakes are much higher than expected. The five-match series has a potential to ensure the Emerald Island nation’s direct entry to the 2019 ICC World Cup.
The 1996 World champions will have to win at least two matches to secure a place in the pinnacle 50-over competition by staving off the challenge from the West Indies. The cut-off date for direct qualification is 30 September. Sri Lanka in the current ICC rankings is placed eighth with 88 points, 10 points more than the West Indies, which has an unenviable task in its aim of being among the seven top-ranked sides apart from host England to gain direct qualification.
India appear invincible. But, Sri Lanka have uncompromising reasons to rise to the occasion. That sets the equation for a fiery duel right in the middle – as rightly stated by the SonyLIV creative team – Ab lagegi Lanka mein aag!
For SonyLIV, Signature start up accessories continue to be webcaster’s presenting partners for the limited overs series. While, Bajaj’s Dominor 400 and Dell computers are the associate sponsors.
The action will be live from 20th August on SonyLiv from 2.30 pm (IST) as the five-match series gets underway at the Dambulla International Stadium.
