Other than Thakar, three top executives of Star Sports, have resigned just days after Uday Shankar announced his departure from the broadcaster even as IPL got off to a solid start despite the Covid-19 disruption.
It is also being reliably learnt that Rupali Fernandes (emerging sports), Ashok Namboodiri (business head – regional sports network) & Rajiv Mathrani, (marketing head) also put in their papers.
Earlier last week, Uday Shankar had stepped down as president, The Walt Disney Company APAC and chairman, Star & Disney India, effective as of December 31, 2020, it was announced by Rebecca Campbell, Chairman of Disney’s Direct-to-Consumer & International segment.
According to sources close to the development, the talks of his departure were on for some time. However, his last date at India’s largest sports broadcaster has not been decided yet. In the interim period, Star TV Network executive vice president Sanjog Gupta will be handling his responsibilities.
K Madhavan, managing director of Star & Disney India, had called a meeting of the top rung at Star Sports on Monday. It was conveyed in the meeting that Sanjog Gupta, head of sports content (production & programming) will be elevated to take up Thakar’s role.
