Having endured several injuries in his long 24 year-old cricketing career , Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar inaugurated the Centre for Sports Medicine at Aster Medcity in Kochi.
After launching the centre, Sachin said sports medicine was not meant for sports person who suffer injuries only. “It is for everyone who wants to lead an active life,” said Sachin. On tennis elbow, the disease that affected his career for some time, Sachin said doctors were clueless about his illness. “Then, the doctors could not even diagnose the disease,” he said.
Sachin also launched ‘6 Little Masters,’ an initiative by Aster Medcity to promote fitness among schoolchildren. Earlier in the day, the cricket legend had launched the Centre For Sports Medicine and Advanced Rehabilitation at Aster MIMS, Kozhikode.
The centre , dedicated facility for sports medicine and rehabilitation, is claimed to be the first of its kind in the state. It offers specialised services in management/prevention of sports injuries, maintenance of physical fitness and enhancement of performance to athletes and non-athletes of all ages.
“The medical team at the centre, comprising the first sports medicine physician in Kerala who is an MD, trained sports/arthroscopic surgeons, behavioural analysts, physiotherapists and nutritionists, provide personalised care to patients throughout the treatment period. Multidisciplinary in approach, they offer customised treatment that helps the patient achieve the desired level of performance,” said Aster DM Healthcare chairman and MD Dr Azad Moopan.
