Sports Ministry spent ₹895 crore on different schemes: Kiren Rijiju

The Ministry of Sports has spent 894.87 crores under different schemes for the promotion of sports till October this year. Khelo India was allocated ₹ 321.38 of this budget, while  ₹328.49 crores was spent by Sports Authority of India and ₹245 crores was given to National Sports Federations.

The Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju has revealed the information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.

The Minister has further stated that all sports promotional schemes and facilities of the Ministry are equally available and accessible to women athletes.

The Ministry has also undertaken some specific initiatives for the promotion of sportswomen in India. Under the ‘Sports for Women’ vertical of Khelo India Scheme, the Ministry has decided to launch the ‘Khelo India Football Girls League’ in the Under-17 age group, which states a report by indusdictum.com.

Support of ₹3 crores was given to the Boxing Federation of India for conducting the AIBA (International Boxing Association) World Women Boxing Championship, 2018 held in New Delhi.

Under the ‘Talent Search and Development’ vertical of Khelo India Scheme, 1,344 women Khelo India Athletes have been supported out of the total 2,741 athletes.
