Sportstar magazine registers 8% growth in readership

India’s most read sports magazine, Sportstar has recorded an 8.03% growth in its readership as per the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) Quarter 2 data.

Sportstar, the weekly that offers an insight into Indian sports with a range of views, reviews and interviews, is the only sports publication in the IRS list of top ten magazines.

According to the IRS findings, published on last Friday, Sportstar has 37.13 readers – up from 34.37 lakh in quarter 1.

IRS is conducted by Nielsen for the Media Research Users Council (MRUC).

Sportstar in the list is placed seventh in the overall list and second among the English magazines behind table topper India Today. Another India Today Group magazine – General Knowledge Today – has been displaced from the No. 2 position by Sportstar.

Sportstar also happen to be the only magazine in the top 10 list register a growth during the week, whereas other regional language and Hindi magazines have shown a decline while table topper India Today did not show any change.

Established in 1978, Sportstar is published in India from Chennai by The Hindu newspaper. The present tabloid format was introduced in 2006 when the name was also changed from The Sportstar to Sportstar.

Sportstar, covers sports ranging from top international events like the Olympics, FIFA and UEFA tournaments, Tennis, Formula 1, World Cup events in cricket, football and hockey, Asian Games to Indian domestic sports competitions.
