The first poster of the film, Mariyappan, the biopic of India’s Paralympics high jumper who won the gold at Rio in 2016, was released by Shah Rukh Khan here today.
The film will tell the story life of the 21-year-old high jumper from Salem district of Tamil Nadu. Mariyappan had defied history and braved odds ahead of the 2016 Summer Paralympic Games at Rio de Janeiro and won the gold in the high jump in T-42 category.
21-year-old Mariyappan became the first Paralympics gold medal winner for India in 12 years after his heroic effort. He grew up as one of six children, who was raised by his single mother, who worked as a daily worker, sometimes earning as little as Rs. 100 ($1.5) for the family. He suffered permanent disability when his leg, below the knee, was crushed by a bus.
Superstar Rajinikanth’s daughter, Aishwarya Dhanush, will direct the movie about Mariyappan Thangavelu. The film will have Sean Roldan scoring its music, while the cinematography will be by Velraj and dialogues by filmmaker Raju Murugan. The poster also revealed that the film will be simultaneously shot in English.
