Over 46,000 runners will flock to the Mumbai roads on Sunday, January 20. The IAAF Gold Label Tata Mumbai Marathon promoters Procam International have outlined arrangements for one of India’s largest, and most prestigious distance running events.
Race director Hugh Jones, Medical director Dr Vijay D’Silva, Procam International joint MD, Vivek Singh and Operations Representative director P N Sankaran have released the various facilities and arrangements at the start and finish along with the and the new route and timings for the event.
On the announcement, Hugh Jones, said: “There is a slight change this year along the route around the finish lines. We have various finish points for an improved experience. Marathon Amateurs, Half Marathoners, and participants in the Timed 10km Run will be finishing at Hazarimal Somani Marg. We are also going to start early so that the marathoners have covered a good amount of length before the sun hits them. We will have less conflict with moving traffic, and have also taken into consideration the ongoing metro construction work. We have managed to have a straight run for the elite runners. This year we have less turns and kept only one U-turn, which is at Nariman Point. All these changes will ensure that the runners and the spectators enjoy a smooth race during Tata Mumbai Marathon 2019.”
The 16th edition of the event will observe light changes in the route in timing, start and finish lines across categories. “It’s a privilege for Asian Heart Institute and me to be associated with the Mumbai Marathon since inception. This year, we have built an infrastructure which is a replica of the hospital. It is spread over the entire 42-km course with 400-500 medical manpower and 2 major base camps, one with 40 beds and another with 20 beds. To ensure the health of every participant, we have arranged 11 aid- stations across the route, 13 ambulances, and 8 medics on bikes. More than 200 medical people with over 400 volunteers will be present along the course,” said Dr D’Silva.
Vivek Singh added that “We are thankful to the Government and Bombay Gymkhana for their support. This year we have made slight changes across the course and created a challenging environment. We have ensured that there is no stoppage in any metro construction work. This year we have kept a finish at Hazarimal Somani Marg for certain categories of runners. We would like to thank all the authorities in the city as they have provided us excellent support to ensure that we have a successful edition once again.“
The organisers have also released the elaborate race day arrangements. Runners are Tata Mumbai Marathon’s biggest stakeholders and Procam will continue with deploying initiatives towards making race day more memorable for all participants.
