Star Sports 1 Telugu to go on-air on Wednesday

Star India is all set to launch its third regional sports channel Star Sports 1 Telugu on 7 December. The channel will be the third addition to Star Sports’ regional language screens after Star Sports 1 Hindi, the key market driver for Star Sports, and Star Sports 1 Tamil.

The broadcaster has been testing the Star Sports 1 Telugu on AsiaSat 7 at 105 East. The promos to announce the Telugu sports channel launch are or air Currently, Star runs two regional sports channels Star Sports 1 Hindi and Star Sports 1 Tamil.

The broadcaster is running promos on Telugu channels announcing the arrival of the new channel. Telugu star Rana Daggubati is engaged to promote the new channel.

Star Sports 1 Telugu, just like the SS 1 Hindi and SS 1 Tamil, will also have dedicated Telugu commentators for live sporting events. There will be dedicated Telugu language graphics.

Star’s regional sports channels are home to India cricket and local sporting leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pro Kabaddi, and Indian Super League (ISL). The regional sports channels also promote State-level sporting events. Star Sports 1 Tamil is the official broadcaster of Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).

Till now, Star was broadcasting Telugu feeds for different sporting events on Star Maa Movies. The launch of Star Sports 1 Telugu will ensure that Star Maa Movies will not have to tinker with its FPC anymore.

Under the new MRP regime, Star Sports 1 Telugu and Star Sports 1 Kannada have been priced at Rs 19 each for TV consumers.

With the launch of Star Sports 1 Telugu, Star’s sports portfolio will comprise nine SD and five HD channels. Other channels include Star Sports 1, Star Sports 1 HD, Star Sports 2, Star Sports 2 HD, Star Sports 3, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Hindi HD, Star Sports Select 1, Star Sports Select 1 HD, Star Sports Select 2, Star Sports Select 2 HD, Star Sports 1 Tamil, and Star Sports First.

Star has media rights for multiple sports properties including cricket coverage under the purview of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) New Zealand Cricket Board, Bangladesh Cricket Board and Asian Cricket Council (ACC); Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL); Karnataka Premier League (KPL); Caribbean Premier League (CPL); Pro Kabaddi; Football under Hero Indian Super League (ISL) Hero I-League, Hero Super Cup, Premier League, Bundesliga; Badminton under Badminton World Federation (BWF) events, Premier Badminton League (PBL); Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT); and other premium sports such as Formula 1; Wimbledon, The French Open and US Open.
