Cricket in India is synonymous with unity and as they famously say, the gentleman’s game is like a religion with cricketers as their gods and fans as followers. Since resumption of live cricket events due to the COVID-19 pandemic is still unclear, Star Sports, India’s leading sports broadcaster, now presents fans with a golden opportunity to get into the minds of their favourite icons on its show ‘Legends’ starting from May 4th, 2020 (Monday) at 7 PM & 9 PM IST on Star Sports 1 and Star Sports 2.
The two week long 10-episode series from Monday to Friday, will see the greats who have graced the 22 yards, reveal life-changing moments from their illustrious careers. The show will see a grand opening with the ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar talking about his journey that spanned across two decades. Tendulkar, who brought the curtains down on his distinguished international journey in 2013 at the Wankhede Stadium, defined cricket as a religion in India and set the benchmark that the game has for posterity. In the next episode, former India captain and current BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, a close confidante of Tendulkar’s, throws light on how a journey that started off on the football field landed up leading one of the best powerhouses in the cricket arena.
Among other legends, the show will also feature Anil Kumble whose contribution to Indian cricket is unprecedented. On the show, ‘Jumbo’ as he was fondly called by his team-mates, reveals how he saw through Team India in many difficult situations. Among them specially was a moment in 2002 against West Indies when even a broken jaw would not dent his remarkable spirit. Kumble, who showed that spin was key to win, bowled 14 overs with his face swathed with bandages in what was one of the most valiant moments in Antigua and the world over that year.
The series also features some of the great Australian legends such as Michael Clarke, Matthew Hayden, Glenn McGrath and Mark Waugh. On May 6th, Matthew Hayden, part of an Australian side that dominated wholly the other nations, elucidates on how he went on to become a legendary Aussie opener despite facing selection troubles early in his career. He also sheds light on his partnership with Justin Langer. Another member from that Australian team, Glenn McGrath, will take viewers through on how he overcame his shy and nervous traits as a kid to become one of the most feared fast bowlers in the circuit.
