Australian skipper Steve Smith has taken over as the new RPS (Rising Pune Supergiants) skipper after MS Dhoni has decided to step down.

According to ANI report, MS Dhoni himself asked the team management to step down as skipper  and wanted to be part of the team as a player only.

Dhoni has been the skipper of an IPL team in all past nine seasons.

The decision comes a day before the players’ auctions scheduled to be held in Bengaluru.

Dhoni has been one of the most successful players in the IPL. He had led the now suspended Chennai Super Kings franchise from 2008 to 2015.

The  high point was leading the side  to back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. MS  also led Chennai to the Champions League T20 trophies in 2010 and 2014.
