Suns vs Lakers 4th Quarter

Chris Paul had two steals and a block on 3 of LAL’s last 4 possessions to help protect PHX’s lead down the stretch here.

Alex Caruso got his 5th PF. He’s back in at the 4:30 mark.

LAL used a little 6-0 run to trim the margin to 8 at 92-84 as they try to hang in with Phoenix. Caruso fouling out at the 9:15 mark won’t help, though.

Suns vs Lakers 3rd Quarter

Montrezl Harrell missed his first shot tonight … and has made 8 straight since then. He also hit 8 straight shots in the 4th Q last night, so that’s 16 of his last 17 FG’s.
Tall task for the Lakers to come back from a 15-point halftime deficit without their starting frontcourt here. A pair of Schroder 3’s got them off to a good start in the 3rd, but PHX rallied back to push their lead back to 15 at the 7:09 mark.

KCP and Matthews are used to getting wide-open looks from 3 when playing with LeBron, but those looks aren’t going to be quite as open in his absence. They went a combined 1 for 9 from the field in the 1st half. LAL was 2 for 12 from 3 overall.

Suns vs Lakers 2nd Quarter

LAL had been hanging in before Phoenix’s starting group created some separation since the last time out. The margin is now 53-39 after a pair of PHX 3’s, with 2:52 left in the 2nd Q.

Devontae Cacok checks in with LAL trailing 35-32, looking to add some rebounding (his best skill) and finishing around the rim.

Suns vs Lakers 1st Quarter

Phoenix shot the ball very well in the 1st Q, hitting 14 of 23 FG’s (60.9%) and 3 of 7 3’s. The Lakers shot only 37.5% but hung around thanks to a 4-0 turnover margin, and by hitting 7 of 8 FT’s (PHX was 0 for 2).

Suns hold a 31-26 edge after 12 minutes.

B2B transition layups from THT and then Schroder trimmed a 10-point PHX lead to 26-20 at the 2:28 mark of the 1st Q, into a Suns time out.

LAL got a jumper from KCP on the first possession, but have since missed 6 straight shots, as PHX (5 of 7) opens a 10-2 lead into the first time out.

Suns vs Lakers Starting 5

LAL’s starters tonight in the absence of LeBron/AD/Gasol:

Schroder, KCP, Matthews, Kuzma, and Morris. Vogel keeps Harrell in his preferred bench spot, though he’ll play big minutes.

Frank Vogel on the absence of big players

Vogel said Marc Gasol will be out tonight in Phoenix, joining fellow starting frontcourt partners LeBron James and Anthony Davis on the bench. Gasol has been cleared from protocols but has yet to practice.

Vogel said it could be a game or two still as he gets his conditioning.

Frank Vogel on LeBron’s high ankle sprain: “Those things take a while to heal. They are slow recoveries. We’re prepared to be without him indefinitely.
The Lakers will have lost 36 games to starters including tonight’s game at Phoenix. The two teams ahead of them in the Western standings have lost 10 (Utah) and 8 (Phoenix) games to starters. Vogel: “I’m proud of our guys for competing through difficult circumstances.
