Sushil Kumar Case Updates: All eyes are on the two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar and Delhi Police as the six-day custody of India’s finest athlete accused in the alleged murder of 23-year-old wrestler nears an end. With the high-profile case transferred to the Crime Branch to investigate and file the chargesheet, Sushil’s counsel, BS Jakhar, claimed that his client “has been framed”. In an exclusive conversation with InsideSport, he reasoned out saying: “In the FIR filed there was no mention of Sushil. It was after Sagar Dhankar (one of the victims) died, the Delhi Police included Pahelwan (Sushil)” adding “we have denied and said the incident was just a quarrel between two groups at the stadium and Sushil had just come to intervene and resolve it.”
The incident happened earlier this month, on May 4, after a brawl broke out between two groups at the Chhatrasal Stadium. As mention in the FIR, the dispute was allegedly over a flat in the Model Town area which belongs to Sushil’s wife Savita.
Sushil Kumar case Update: During the fight, Dhankar suffered a head injury, and succumbed to it in the hospital. After this, Sushil went into hiding and the police issued a non-bailable warrant against him, followed by a cash reward. Jakhar questioned Delhi Police’s intentions saying: “Never has in history the Delhi Police issued a non-bailable warrant in just 10 days. Even if it’s a dread criminal. Then why against Sushil Pahelwan? Also, Police the notice (under section) 160 to his wife and not him, Why? Then they announced a reward which usually happens after a chargesheet is filed. There was the wrong intention from the start.”
The decorated wrestler along with his associate Ajay Sherawat was arrested by the Delhi Police on Sunday from Mundka. He was taken to Chhatrasal Stadium on Tuesday to recreate the crime scene.
According to a report by India Today, the top Delhi Police brass claimed that Sushil is not cooperating in the investigation. Jakhar, in the wrestler’s defence, said that they are trying to get his signature on a blank paper which the 38-year-old has denied.
“He is in remand now. There they are trying to get to falsely confess the crime which he has not even committed. He has denied to give a signature on any paper and therefore such claims,” Jakhar said.
Sushil Kumar Case Updates: Sushil will be presented in front of a judge on Saturday, where the Delhi Police will have to reveal their findings along with the ‘much famed’ video clip. “They have 90 days to file the chargesheet. The famed clip, which police claims shows Sushil during the incident, where is it? We are waiting for the next hearing now,” Jakhar added.
