Syed Mushtaq Ali T20: Delhi Capital’s Shikhar Dhawan regained his form on Friday when his domestic side Delhi faced Kerala in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The left-handed batsman staged a brilliant 77 run knock off just 48 balls after Kerala won the toss and opted to bowl.
On his way to 77, Dhawan hit three maximums and seven boundaries at a strike rate of 160.42. The scintillating innings helped his side register a mammoth total of 212 runs on board. Lalit Yadav also chipped in with a valuable contribution of 52 runs of 25 balls and remained unbeaten at the end of the innings.
It is to be noted that skipper Shikhar Dhawan had failed to perform in the opening two matches of the tournament. He scored 23 runs off 23 balls against Mumbai, which was Delhi’s inaugural match of the tournament. In their second encounter against Andhra, Dhawan was dismissed cheaply after scoring just 5 runs of 7 balls by Harishankar Reddy. However, much to Dhawan’s joy, Delhi won both their matches and has picked up the full 8 points in Elite Group E.
As far as the IPL is concerned, Dhawan had a splendid campaign last year in which he scored a whopping 618 runs in 17 matches. He averaged a brilliant 44.14 and also scored a superb century against Kings XI Punjab.
