T20 World Cup: Babar Azam’s Pakistan look to break World Cup jinx against Virat Kohli’s India – Virat Kohli led Team India will face Babar Azam’s Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup confirmed ICC on Friday. The ICC has confirmed the groups for the seventh edition of the men’s 20-over tournament, which will once again consist of two stages – the preliminary qualifier round and the Super 12s.

Pakistan and India have faced each other eight times in T20I out of which Men in Green have managed to beat Men in Blue just once. While in the T20 World Cup Pakistan is yet to break India jinx as they have failed to beat India on all five occasions. 

2007 World Cup

In the 2007 World Cup, India played a match against Pakistan in the group stage which went in bowl-out after a tie. India won the bowl out to win the game. While in the final of the 2007 World Cup India defeated Pakistan by five runs to clinch the inaugural trophy of the T20 World Cup under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

India did not face Pakistan in the 2009 WC. Men in Green won that tournament.

2012 World Cup

In the 2012 World Cup which was hosted in Sri Lanka, India defeated Pakistan by eight wickets. Virat Kohli was named the Man of the Match for his superb knock of 78 runs.

2014 World Cup

India reached the final of the 2014 World Cup where they last Sri Lanka. In the group stage match, India faced Mohammad Hafeez led the Pakistan team and defeated them by seven wickets. Amit Mishra was named the Man of the Match for his 2/22.

2016 World Cup

India hosted the 2016 World Cup. MS Dhoni-led Team India faced Pakistan Shahid Afridi’s Pakistan in the group stage where they thrashed Men in Green by six wickets. Virat Kohli was again the player of the match for his 55 run unbeaten knocks.

Round 1 (Qualifying stage):

Group A: Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Namibia

Group B: Bangladesh, Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Oman

Super 12s (Final round):

Group 1: Australia, England, South Africa, West Indies, A1, B2

Group 2: India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Afghanistan, B1, A2

The full fixture for the tournament, which will run from October 17 until November 14 and be played in Oman and the United Arab Emirates, will be finalised at a later date.
