T20 World Cup: Gautam Gambhir optimistic over India’s chances says, ‘India will have home advantage because of IPL 2021’: While Virat Kohli led Indian team is playing the Test series against England overseas, talks and speculations have already started on India’s campaign at ICC T20 World Cup 2021. India, who will open their campaign against the arch-rivals- Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai, have garnered much attention. Recently, former Indian cricketer, Gautam Gambhir mentioned that Indian players will have an advantage in the ICC tournament as they would be coming after playing the second leg of IPL 2021 in the UAE.
“It is very difficult to predict in the T20 format but if you say Pakistan plays a lot of cricket in the UAE, I feel India will have the home advantage because you would have played one month of the IPL in the UAE.”
The veteran player also highlighted that the quality of the game in the IPL will prepare players better than a bilateral series. Thus, for the Indian players’ acclimatization to the conditions coupled with the IPL contests will place them better for the T20 World Cup.
“At the same time, when you go into the World Cup after playing a tournament of IPL’s quality, you are better prepared. If you go after playing a bilateral series, you are not as well prepared as you are after playing the IPL,” Gambhir added.
Quality of cricket in IPL is very high, says Gambhir
Cementing his point, Gambhir said that the cash-rich league offers a brand of cricket that is of high quality and even surpasses the standards of international cricket.
“The intensity and quality of cricket in the IPL, I feel it is equivalent to any international cricket or even better. Imagine if you go into the World Cup after playing South Africa or Sri Lanka, or after playing the IPL, you will be better prepared by playing the IPL. So, the home advantage will be in India’s favor as compared to Pakistan or any other country.”
After the conclusion of the Test series in England, the Indian players will head straight to UAE and join their respective franchises for the remainder of season 14 of the T20 league.
