Soumya Sarkar has been retained despite his poor recent form, considering the absence of Tamim Iqbal. Liton Das will take up wicket-keeping duties with Mohammad Naim, Afif Hossain and Nurul Hasan bolstering the batting attack. Mustafizur Rahman will be the leader of their attack, with Taskin Ahmed, Saifuddin and Mahedi Ahsan for company.
The trio of Mosaddek Hossein, Taijul Islam and Aminul Islam, who featured in the series against New Zealand, have been left out. Rubel Hossain, who was part of the squad, has been named standby along with young leg-spinner Aminul. Mohammad Mithun, who featured in the series against Australia, wasn’t considered for selection either.
Bangladesh will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on October 17 as they aim to qualify for the Super 12 stages. They are drawn in Group B alongside Oman, Papua New Guinea and Scotland and will qualify if they secure a top-two finish in their group. The Mahmuddullah led side will take on Scotland in their first fixture on October 17 – the opening day of the tournament.
