Tokyo Olympics: Entire Indian contingent congratulate Neeraj Chopra after historic gold medal win; Check video- Neeraj Chopra created history on Saturday after he became the first Indian to win the gold medal in track and field events after his epic performance at the Tokyo Olympics. Chopra threw a gigantic 87.58m distance in the javelin throw finals to clinch the gold and become only India’s second individual gold medallist after Abhinav Bindra in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. The 23-year-old etched himself in India’s sporting history and the plaudits continue to come in rightfully for the Indian athlete.

While the entire nation celebrates Neeraj Chopra’s great triumph, the 23-year-old received a special welcome by the Indian contingent at the Tokyo Olympics. The remaining athletes at the Summer Games lined up to congratulate Chopra on his historic achievement on Saturday. The track and field athlete from Haryana was welcomed with applause by the entire contingent before everyone took turns to greet and embrace him and share their regards.
Chopra then proceeded to cut a cake to celebrate the occasion and personally feeding it to some of his fellow athletes and the support staff. Chopra’s efforts were hailed and applauded along with those of others at the end, in what has been India’s best Olympics campaign to date. Watch the video here:

India won seven medals at the Tokyo Olympics, their best ever tally at the Summer Games, surpassing the six they won at the London Olympics in 2012. Mirabai Chanu won India’s first medal as she clinched a silver in weightlifting, with PV Sindhu and Lovlina Borgohain following up with bronze medals. Indian men’s hockey team and Bajrang Punia also clinched the bronze medal, while Ravi Kumar Dahiya clinched a silver in Wrestling. Neeraj Chopra was the sole gold medallist after he clinched the javelin throw finals on Saturday.
