RIO Olympics Medal Tally: Look at the medals won by India at the 2016 Rio Olympics

India sent out a strong contingent of 117 athletes to compete across 15 sports at the 2016 Rio Olympics. After a good medal haul at the 2012 London Olympics, the nation was expecting more medals from the athletes .  This contingent had popular names like Abhinav Bindra, Gagang Narang, Deepika Kumari, Saina Nehwal, who were the hot favourites to bring Olympic medal to the nation, but destiny had something else in store. All big names choked at big occasions, and it was young guns like P.V Sindhu and Sakshi Malik who saved India from the embarrassment. Let’s look at the medals won by India at the 2016 Rio Olympics

P.V Sindhu (Badminton)

P.V. Sindhu won a silver medal in women’s singles at this Olympics and became the first Indian woman to win a silver medal. In the final clash against Carolina Marin, it all started well with Sindhu winning the first set 21-9, but Carolina Marin came back strongly in the next two 21-12, 21-15.

Sakshi Malik (Wrestling)

Sakshi Malik won a bronze medal in the women’s freestyle 58kg category at the Olympics. She lost in the quarterfinal but reached the semi-finals through the repechage. In the semi-finals, she was trailing by a score of 0-5 but made a brilliant comeback and won 8-5 to seal the bout.
