Among other big names French Open champions Barbora Krejcikova, Iga Swiatek, World No.2 Daniil Medvedev, among others. Sumit Nagal vs Denis Istomin

India’s medal prospect Sumit Nagal will face off Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the opening round of the Tokyo Games. While Sumit Nagal is ranked 160 in the latest ATP rankings, Istomin is placed 197. The latter could provide a tough task for the Olympic debutant owing to his experience of playing at Grand Slams at the highest levels. He is coming into the games with a win-loss ratio of 14:19 across all competitive matches.

The 23-year-old has a win-loss ratio of 18:17 on the main tour and challenger circuit. He is heading into the Tokyo Olympics low in confidence after dropping five of his last fixtures. Adding to his woes, Nagal is currently dealing with a minor injury that will require a mental battle to come out on top. He had earlier won a gold medal at Asian Indoor Games 2017.

Novak Djokovic vs Hugo Dellien

The World No.1 Novak Djokovic will begin his quest for gold at Tokyo Olympics on Saturday. He will take on Hugo Dellien of Bolivia. While Djokovic does not need an introduction, Dellien is ranked 139 in ATP rankings and No.1 in Bolivia. He is the first Bolivian player to win in ATP since Mario Martinez at Roland Garros in 1984. He has also represented his country at Davis Cup with a win-loss ratio of 26:10. The 28-year-old will face an uphill task in the opening contest against the Serbian Giant.

On the other hand, If the Serbian superstar can go on to win gold at the US Open men’s singles, he would become the first male tennis player to compete for a Golden Slam.

Barbora Krejcikova vs Zarina Diyas

French Open 2021 singles and doubles champion Barbora Krejcikova will begin her quest for gold against Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan. She is heading into the Games with a Prague Open title in women’s singles.

Iga Swiatek vs Mona Barthel

Another Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek will face off Mona Barthel of Germany in round 1 of the Tokyo Olympics.
